[07:48:31] <buildmaster> Hi deep42thought!
[07:48:54] <deep42thought> Hi vboxler, what's your problem?

[07:52:40] <vboxler> i use the DE LXDE
[07:53:30] <vboxler> did you have a solution for me?
[07:54:06] <deep42thought> have you tried the ones from the linked forum thread?
[07:54:14] <deep42thought> besides that: no, not now
[07:54:21] <deep42thought> plus I'm requested at breakfast ;-)
[07:57:01] <vboxler> if i remove "sudo pacman -Rs xf86-video-intel" the xserver didn't start

[08:06:49] <vboxler> https://bbs.archlinux.org should i try this very old solution?

[08:08:40] <vboxler> i think it is a xorg-server 1.20.0-5.0 problem
[08:28:23] <deep42thought> this will probably fail in many ways
[08:34:57] <vboxler> what did you i the best way?
[08:35:02] <vboxler> +mean
[08:35:34] <deep42thought> first I'd look whose fault it is by downgrading xorg or the kernel
[08:35:50] <deep42thought> or abiword or ...
[08:36:12] <deep42thought> (one at a time)
[08:36:49] <vboxler> abiword 3.0.2-7.0 works with Lubuntu 18.04 without problems
[08:37:34] <vboxler> i have try the linux-lts kernel, but the same problem
[08:37:38] <deep42thought> no, do not switch the whole os
[08:40:15] <deep42thought> just try to install older versions inside arch from /var/cache/pacman/pkg/...
[08:40:22] <deep42thought> or from the archive: archive.archlinux32.org
[08:40:40] <deep42thought> (sry for my latency, doing some other stuff in parallel, here)

[08:43:49] <deep42thought> something like this?
[08:43:59] <deep42thought> I'm no kernel options expert
[08:44:00] <deep42thought> :-D
[08:49:17] <vboxler> shoul i ask abaumann?
[08:49:29] <deep42thought> yeah, he knows a lot more about it :-)
[08:49:53] <deep42thought> plus: he was fighting with graphics drivers, too
[08:50:08] <deep42thought> but I'm not sure yours is a driver problem
[08:50:15] <deep42thought> does an older version of abiword work?
[08:50:43] <vboxler> i didn't have try
[08:51:10] <vboxler> because i will have a clean archlinux32
[08:51:36] <deep42thought> you can always just "pacman -Syu" to get to the most recent state again
[08:51:47] <deep42thought> that's what package managers are made for
[08:51:49] <vboxler> if make my own things, than archlinux32 makes more and many problems
[08:51:55] <deep42thought> :-D
[08:52:11] <deep42thought> you just need to know your way back
[08:52:37] <deep42thought> just try "pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/abiword-$olderversion.pkg.tar.xz"
[08:52:44] <deep42thought> have a look if the issue is gone
[08:52:52] <deep42thought> and then you can do "pacman -Syu" to get back again
[08:53:04] <deep42thought> "back" = "up-to-date system"
[08:53:23] <vboxler> i will ask abaumann, you input is for me to complicatet
[08:53:46] <deep42thought> ok, good luck!
[08:53:55] <vboxler> whe can i date abamann at this channel?
[08:54:19] <deep42thought> he'll read the logs and hop on when he got some time

[12:34:49] <buildmaster> Hi abaumann!
[12:36:01] <abaumann> deep42thought: about boost, boost-libs-1.67.0-4.0 is in stable, and boost-1.66.0-3.0 causing an update blockage
[12:36:10] <abaumann> :: installing x265 (2.8-1.0) breaks dependency 'libx265.so=151-32' required by
[12:36:13] <abaumann> ffmpeg2.8
[12:36:15] <abaumann> that's another one.
[12:36:48] <abaumann> vboxler: I can reproduce the abiword flickering, I tried the following to fix it:
[12:36:59] <abaumann> setting another GTK_THEME (Adwaita), no effect.
[12:37:19] <abaumann> using the DDX Xorg driver xf86-video-intel together with UXA acceleration, still flickering.
[12:38:02] <abaumann> I cannot get modesetting to work on my i915 chip, I get a OpenGL minimal version 2.1 required error message and I fear, I simply have a too old DRM implementation for this card.
[12:38:36] <abaumann> There are rumours you can compile aboword-gtk2 (from the AUR), as gtk2 has no acceleration (or less) than gtk3, maybe that's an option..
[12:38:56] -!- vboxler has joined #archlinux32
[12:39:27] <vboxler> deep42thought: hello, https://aur.archlinux.org should solved the problem with abiword
[12:39:28] <phrik> Title:AUR (en) - abiword-gtk2 (at aur.archlinux.org)
[12:39:36] <abaumann> hi.
[12:39:54] <abaumann> yeah. but it's a workaround. Now you have to keep abiword-gtk2 up to date yourself.
[12:39:57] <vboxler> abaumann: hi, did you have read my problem?
[12:40:16] <abaumann> read problem?
[12:41:28] <vboxler> can you read the logfile from this day?
[12:42:20] <abaumann> yes.
[12:42:22] <vboxler> https://bbs.archlinux.org
[12:42:22] <phrik> Title:Abiword is flickering (Gnome shell) / Applications & Desktop Environments / Arch Linux Forums (at bbs.archlinux.org)
[12:42:37] <abaumann> yes. I was refering to that flickering issue in Abiword.
[12:42:37] <vboxler> abaumann: this is my problem
[12:42:57] <abaumann> I fear this is more an abiword/gtk3 problem that an Xorg problem
[12:43:16] <abaumann> Ah. now I understand. :-)
[12:43:29] <abaumann> I answered above your question while you where not yet online. :-)

[12:44:14] <phrik> Title:#archlinux32 | Logs for 2018-06-24 (at archlinux32.andreasbaumann.cc)
[12:47:24] <vboxler> can we get abiword-gtk2 in the archlinux32 repositories?
[12:47:48] <abaumann> no.
[12:47:53] <deep42thought> abaumann: you say, I should force-move boost-1.67.0-4.0?
[12:48:12] <abaumann> yeah, well. most likely some things will break then :-)
[12:48:29] <deep42thought> sounds like a good plan :-D
[12:48:38] <abaumann> we can have abiword-gtk2 in personal repos maybe like an AUR repo, but not in core/extra/community..
[12:49:11] <deep42thought> re abiword: doesn't that mean, that more gtk3 programs are potentially broken?
[12:49:24] <abaumann> No, I don't think so.
[12:49:50] <abaumann> I saw abiword had flickering issues before. Most likely they use some GTK3 things in funny ways. :-)
[12:50:07] <vboxler> in the future for archlinux32 the abiwordproblem solved the problem?
[12:50:38] <vboxler> with my archlinux64 system, Abiword works without problems
[12:50:48] <vboxler> an without aur package
[12:50:53] <vboxler> and
[12:51:40] <vboxler> Why Abiword works with archlinux64?
[12:51:47] <abaumann> As I said, I would prefer to find a proper solution, abiword-gtk2 from the AUR as package or not as package is not a solution.
[12:51:50] <vboxler> in don't use aur
[12:51:58] <abaumann> yep. that's exactly the tricky question here.
[12:52:47] <abaumann> I have to test more. Is it only with Intel drivers, for instance.
[12:55:57] <vboxler> Abiword i a good solution for slow hardware
[12:56:52] <vboxler> Lubuntu 18.04, here is Abword work without problem, with intel grafik, the same hardware
[12:57:49] <vboxler> abaumann: did the archlinux32 kernel have kms support to use nomodesetting?
[12:59:26] <abaumann> As I understand intel drivers require KMS enabled for modesetting.
[13:00:01] <abaumann> nomodeset and i915.modeset=0 are only usable if all you really need is a text mode.
[13:00:08] <vboxler> XOrg >= 1.20 should better work with nomodesetting
[13:00:20] <abaumann> you mean the modesetting driver?
[13:00:25] <vboxler> yes
[13:00:31] <abaumann> instead of the DDX old-style intel driver.
[13:00:45] <abaumann> yes, in theory.
[13:00:57] <abaumann> but I get a message: "OpenGDL bigger 2.1 required" when start xinit
[13:00:58] <vboxler> i'm a noob
[13:01:04] <abaumann> easy. :-)
[13:01:09] <vboxler> with a problem
[13:01:19] <abaumann> I was one too till last week ;-0
[13:01:22] <abaumann> ;-)
[13:01:41] <deep42thought> abaumann: moving boost broke exceptionally few packages :-)
[13:01:55] <deep42thought> heaptrack and spring only
[13:02:05] <deep42thought> both were scheduled already
[13:02:22] <abaumann> ah. those are not so important.
[13:03:16] <deep42thought> yeah, but the buildmaster doesn't know ;-)
[13:03:52] <abaumann> lvm2 I think needs boost.
[13:03:59] <abaumann> that one is worse to break :-)
[13:04:43] <vboxler> When should I request abiword again?
[13:04:57] <deep42thought> abaumann: no lvm in the dependency-list O.o
[13:06:52] <abaumann> aha. thin-provisioning-tools needst boost as makedepends, because it only needs the header file only "libraries".
[13:11:49] <vboxler> When should I request abiword again?
[13:12:17] <deep42thought> vboxler: when you see a new version in the repos, you can try it :-)
[13:12:47] <vboxler> new version abiword?
[13:12:58] <deep42thought> yes, exactly
[13:13:54] <vboxler> https://www.abisource.com
[13:13:55] <phrik> Title:AbiWord v3.0.2 release notes (at www.abisource.com)
[13:14:48] <abaumann> mmh. just tested abiword on a bochs_drm in libvirt, same flickering effect..
[13:14:55] <abaumann> ..though much slower :-)
[13:17:08] <vboxler> Can not you read the solution on Lubuntu 18.04?
[13:18:02] <vboxler> Package: abiword (3.0.2-6) [universe]
[13:18:02] <abaumann> what is the solution? I have read at least 4 (from gtk3 theming, to linking against gtk2, using UXA in Intel drivers, using modesetting instead of intel). none worked for me at least :-)
[13:18:23] <abaumann> they have a patch on launchpad?
[13:18:55] <vboxler> i don't know
[13:19:21] <deep42thought> abaumann: the solution is to install lubuntu ;-)
[13:19:55] <abaumann> as I see it, they have years of a history of flickering issues in abiword. and this sounds like a reappearing bug. :-)
[13:20:08] <abaumann> boost works now, thanks.
[13:20:08] <abaumann> :: installing x265 (2.8-1.0) breaks dependency 'libx265.so=151-32' required by ffmpeg2.8
[13:20:20] <abaumann> is this the usual ffmpeg abi cycle?
[13:21:05] <abaumann> ok. flickering is also on testing and staging.
[13:22:41] <deep42thought> ffmpeg2.8 is to be deleted
[13:23:05] <deep42thought> first issue that is not my fault, but the users fault - let's celebrate!
[13:25:35] <abaumann> yippie! :-)
[13:26:25] <abaumann> this sounds like worth a news message?
[13:26:25] <vboxler> abaumann: https://bbs.archlinux.org can you test this ?
[13:26:26] <phrik> Title:Abiword is flickering (Gnome shell) / Applications & Desktop Environments / Arch Linux Forums (at bbs.archlinux.org)
[13:27:21] <abaumann> vboxler: I have now intel DDX enabled and UXA acceleration enabled, same flickering.
[13:27:44] <abaumann> uninstalling intel DDX is no option till I find out why xinit insists on OpenGL 2.1..
[13:28:51] <abaumann> * abaumann fiddles with his Xorg setup and reoboots his eeepc
