[12:53:57] <eworm> Hello everybody!
[12:54:30] <eworm> amd-ucode moved to [core], but linux-firmware did not
[12:55:03] <eworm> Now amd-ucode is useless as old linux-firmware conflicts
[12:55:10] <eworm> any chance to move linux-firmware?
[13:05:03] <deep42thought> buildmaster: why dont you stabilize linux-firmware
[13:07:37] <deep42thought> eworm: I moved linux-firmware
[13:07:56] <eworm> deep42thought: Thanks a lot!
[13:08:27] <buildmaster> deep42thought: I cannot decide whether linux-firmware can be moved or not.
[13:31:42] <eworm> Oh, there are some broken python packages...
[13:31:50] <deep42thought> which?
[13:31:59] <eworm> python-pyqt5 needs a rebuilt
[13:32:06] <deep42thought> ah, yes
[13:32:06] <eworm> well, at least one. :-p
[13:32:08] <deep42thought> it's scheduled
[13:32:19] <deep42thought> it's held back by qt5-webengine
[13:32:30] <deep42thought> which failed to compile, because the fix was only comitted to trunk/
[13:32:43] <deep42thought> and which is now building on my box since a few hours :-/
[13:33:15] <eworm> ok, will wait then ;)

[17:51:57] <elibrokeit> > one simple way to get apps working with python 3.7. is to use github. for example youtube-dl:

[18:09:54] <buildmaster> Hi deep42thought!
[18:10:20] <deep42thought> elibrokeit: I've just recently switched from pypi to github on one of my python packages
[18:10:39] <deep42thought> abaumann: I have no idea how to bootstrap this
[18:11:37] <elibrokeit> deep42thought: "use github" is not an answer to "python37 apocalypse happened and no one's source code, even on master, works with the async keyword syntax errors everywhere"
[18:12:10] <elibrokeit> Like I said, it's cute when they try to advise me how to be a distro maintainer
[18:12:20] <elibrokeit> you have interesting users
[18:13:18] <deep42thought> I might have experienced a different error, then
[18:17:22] <deep42thought> elibrokeit: ah, now I see, what you refer to :-D

[18:20:25] <buildmaster> Hi abaumann!
[18:21:00] <abaumann> be optimistic: in the future we can deploy a booting shell script with a readme.txt stating that all software can simply be downloaded and installed from github. ;->
[18:21:01] <deep42thought> Hi abaumann!
[18:21:04] <abaumann> hi :-)
[18:21:29] <abaumann> ..or: install it from visual studio.. :->
[18:21:49] <abaumann> *grpmf* error: command terminated by signal 4: Illegal instruction
[18:21:59] <abaumann> again? I thought I disabled CET?
[18:22:48] <abaumann> cool: Intel makes sever engineering bugs, hires developers patching code in gcc to produce patched microcodes to fix those bugs..
[18:22:52] <abaumann> *severe
[18:23:11] <abaumann> just another level of soffisticated f*up.
[18:25:28] <abaumann> buildmaster: how sane are you today?
[18:25:44] <buildmaster> abaumann: very
[18:25:51] <abaumann> * abaumann appologizes in advance for all his snarkiness, he had a bad day.
[18:25:59] <deep42thought> np
[18:26:03] <abaumann> :-)
[18:26:53] <abaumann> I should to a grep in the git repo for --enable-cet :->
[18:26:58] <abaumann> glibc of course also has such a flag..
[18:27:18] <abaumann> BTW: should we keep CET support in i686 or should it be only in the i486 branch?
[18:27:26] <abaumann> *or -> and
[18:27:42] <deep42thought> CET?
[18:27:47] <abaumann> I mean: enabled in i686 and disabled in i486.
[18:27:51] <deep42thought> ah
[18:27:56] <abaumann> CET == endbr32/endbr64 patching.
[18:28:06] <deep42thought> is this available on all i686 cpus?
[18:28:18] <deep42thought> else we should move it to pentium3
[18:28:20] <abaumann> As I understood it's usually a NOP on 32-bit anyway.
[18:28:26] <deep42thought> lol
[18:28:55] <abaumann> let me first test if I get a i486 without cet working then.
[18:41:10] <eworm> damn, latest linux-lts does not boot on my embedded systems...
[18:41:45] <eworm> Has there been any change in configuration between 4.14.53-1.0 and 4.14.67-1.0?
[18:45:56] <abaumann> I doubt the kernel itself gets compiled with CET?
[18:46:11] <abaumann> eworm: I'm not aware of config changes..
[18:46:29] <abaumann> what's the exact message you get?
[18:47:32] <eworm> a kernel panic, but the devices have a small screen and I could not see any useful information
[18:47:45] <abaumann> no illegal instructions anywhere?
[18:48:03] <abaumann> sometimes you can do framebuffer scrolling.. or pass a vga=xxx parameter for higher test resolution..
[18:48:18] <abaumann> what kind of embedded device is it.
[18:49:29] <eworm> an embedded board with AMD Geode CPU, mounted behind a display
[18:49:54] <abaumann> aha :-)
[18:50:03] <eworm> could not scroll, and there is no higher resulution I can use

[18:50:07] <phrik> Title:glibc 2.28 on AMD Geode / Pacman / Pacman Upgrades / Arch Linux 32 Forums (at bbs.archlinux32.org)
[18:50:13] <abaumann> most likely the same issue..
[18:50:55] <abaumann> has nothing to do with the kernel.. glibc 2.28 is compiled with CET enabled which is missing on some older CPUs - more precise the fallback to mult-byte NOPs is not existend..
[18:51:02] <eworm> chances are, yes...
[18:51:17] <abaumann> my alix 1.e went belly up too :-(
[18:51:19] <abaumann> same issue.
[18:51:33] <eworm> damn :-p
[18:51:47] <abaumann> I start to think, disabled CET globally also for i686 is at hand..
[18:51:58] <abaumann> *disabling
[18:53:32] <abaumann> either that or have a full i486 branch without CET..
[18:57:47] <eworm> Time to go home...
[18:57:54] <eworm> abaumann: Thanks for your help!

[20:14:11] <rodarima> hi, package python-matplotlib 2.2.2-2.0 seems outdated (upstream 2.2.3-2.0). It's being installed on /usr/lib/python3.6 and hence not found with the new 3.7

[20:46:44] <buildmaster> pyside2-tools is broken (says rechenknecht).
[20:51:03] <deep42thought> elibrokeit: what exactly is the advantage of bsdtar vs. tar?
[20:52:37] <elibrokeit> some would say "it isn't insane". Some would point to how it can handle most archive formats using libarchive, instead of *just* the tar format. Practically speaking, when makepkg creates an archive containing metadata bsdtar knows about, then using tar to untar it, results in warnings
[20:56:42] <deep42thought> I think, I used tar over bsdtar by choice (piping the warnings to /dev/null :-D): I couldn't find a wildcard match option for bsdtar IIRC
