[11:55:40] <thePiGrepper> deep42thought: hi
[11:55:49] <deep42thought> Hi thePiGrepper
[11:55:55] <deep42thought> I have to go in a few minutes
[11:56:38] <thePiGrepper> deep42thought: how are you? quick question then, do you happen to know how can I set a package to get updates from a specific repository that has a lower priority than the core ones?
[11:57:13] <deep42thought> maybe "pacman -S $repo/$pakage"
[11:57:13] <thePiGrepper> for example, if I wanted to get mesa always from testing but testing itself has lower priority than the core ones
[11:57:16] <deep42thought> but I really don't know
[11:57:31] <thePiGrepper> that works for a one time upgrade, but eventually the core ones catch up
[11:57:31] <deep42thought> ah, like permanently
[11:57:53] <thePiGrepper> and I return to the 'normal' packages
[11:57:53] <deep42thought> no, sorry
[11:58:02] <deep42thought> I don't think, there is a non-hackish solution to that
[11:58:04] <thePiGrepper> that'd be a nice tool if it really doesnt exist
[11:58:13] <thePiGrepper> dont you think?
[11:58:25] <thePiGrepper> I think Ill ask around first
[11:58:27] <deep42thought> might be a pretty corner case
[11:59:16] <thePiGrepper> really? because there's a reason for it. what if I'd like to always have the testing versions of certain packages
[11:59:42] <thePiGrepper> because Im really using them and I usually mark them for testing
[11:59:44] <deep42thought> that alone will probably break your system
[12:00:05] <deep42thought> because you'll be missing some libraries from testing most certainly
[12:00:05] <thePiGrepper> yeah, maybe mesa was a very bad example. lol
[12:00:33] <deep42thought> and if you include those libraries, you need to include all packages, that link against those libraries, too
[12:00:39] <thePiGrepper> after all, it's most of the time, all or nothing when it comes to Arch and upgrades
[12:01:17] <thePiGrepper> yeah, you're right, there's no way around partial upgrades
[12:01:31] <thePiGrepper> except for very trivial cases
[12:01:45] <thePiGrepper> thanks ;-)
[12:02:10] <thePiGrepper> btw, quick good news, kernel upstream fixed my issue from june!!
[12:02:24] <deep42thought> \o/
[12:02:35] <thePiGrepper> so I can now upgrade to 4.20 when it comes out.
[12:02:55] <thePiGrepper> I expect a backport for that revert as well
[12:04:56] <deep42thought> afk
