[08:52:43] <deep42thought> Hmm, our assumption, that building a package does not require updating all makedepends first is sometimes wrong
[08:54:46] <deep42thought> e.g. kwayland makedepends on cmake-modules-extra (without version, according to the PKGBUILD) but it fails to build with cmake-modules-extra 5.51.0 - recent (not-yet-built) version is 5.52.0

[14:42:58] <Condor> Looks like Firefox recently broke. It seems like it's currently on v62, but some of the libraries it needs (libicui18n, libicuuc) have their files as .so.63. Is there any way to get this fixed without waiting for an update? I've tried symlinking to the .so.62 files to no avail.

[21:16:14] <Condor> Not sure if this is an issue exclusive to Arch 32, but I've had problems with NetworkManager not always writing out domain, search and DNS info into /etc/resolv.conf. Of course, without DNS it's impossible to use the internet or even connect to my VPN servers. The resolv.conf file seems to be managed by resolvconf. The DNS server is my own (named), and the DHCP server used to be ISC dhcpd4, but now got
[21:16:16] <Condor> changed back to my router's internal DHCP server. The issue persists on both DHCP servers, pointing at a client-side issue. My other clients do not experience this issue. Any suggestions as to how to troubleshoot NetworkManager and/or resolvconf regarding this?
[21:18:41] <girls> to rule out server-side problems: I assume you don't have any special per-client rules on your server?
[21:19:44] <Condor> None in particular. The DHCP server is the same for every client, and so is the DNS server. The resolv.conf writing issues happen before the VPN connection gets established, so that can be ruled out.
[21:20:17] <girls> I'm not really familiar with networkmanager - does it call an external dhcp client?
[21:20:23] <girls> (I use netctl, which does so)
[21:21:13] <girls> maybe, you can tell it to use a different one, then?
[21:21:18] <Condor> Currently I've written in /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf that it should use dhcpcd, but the issue occurs in both systemd's internal DHCP client as well as dhcpcd.
[21:22:09] <Condor> Not sure about dhclient though, but given that it's occuring in both internal and dhcpcd, I think it's safe to assume that it's rather something with resolvconf?
[21:22:22] <girls> yeah, probably
[21:23:34] <girls> you got anything special in /etc/resolvconf.conf?
[21:23:50] <Condor> Didn't change anything in it myself, but I'll check real quick what's currently in it
[21:24:41] <Condor> Only resolv_conf location seems to be specified, which is /etc/resolv.conf
[21:24:52] <girls> I just checked, I wrote a fallback nameserver into /etc/resolv.conf.{head,tail} - maybe, I had that issue, too?
[21:25:21] <Condor> Hmm, perhaps I should write my local DNS server into there then?
[21:25:29] <girls> that solves your issue
[21:25:37] <girls> but it's rather a workaround than a solution
[21:25:52] <Condor> It'd be quite a pain to maintain though.. the reason why I went with local DNS to begin with is centralization :/
[21:26:18] <Condor> pretty much yeah
[21:27:23] <girls> hmm, I didn't put those fallback nameservers into my other arch boxes, though
[21:27:39] <Condor> Also Arch 32 or 64?
[21:27:55] <girls> haven't any dhcp'ed arch32 powered, currently
[21:28:14] <girls> e.g. all 64 (or alarm)
[21:28:55] <Condor> Ah, I see.. I've got another Arch 64 laptop here as well with a very similar system configuration, but that system doesn't have this issue.. pretty strange
[21:30:10] <Condor> turns out that it's still using the old location of the DNS server though, brb.. gonna change it real quick
[21:30:16] <girls> I just checked (the backup of) my arch32 box over here, that works without workaround
[21:32:31] <Condor> Oh, I think I've found the issue!
[21:32:38] * girls wants to know
[21:33:32] <Condor> My VPN servers push the location of the DNS server within that network (10.8.0.3 instead of 192.168.10.3), and NetworkManager seems to replace its resolv.conf with that rather than append the new location. And when the VPN is disconnected, the old information isn't restored.
[21:33:48] <Condor> Maybe it's something similar in Arch 32 as well.. not sure
[21:35:06] <Condor> That wouldn't explain why it doesn't write that information before any VPN connection is made though.. perhaps there's other stuff involved as well
[21:37:22] <Condor> Yep, disconnecting the VPN in Arch 32 also causes /etc/resolv.conf to become unpopulated
[21:38:59] <girls> can you confirm that the issue persists if you completely disable your vpn from the beginning?
[21:39:12] <Condor> Interestingly, the initial network connection makes resolvconf responsible for writing resolv.conf, but VPN connection moves that to NetworkManager..
[21:39:17] <Condor> What do you mean?
[21:39:49] <Condor> The VPN currently isn't set to auto-connect
[21:39:49] -!- guys has quit [Ping timeout: 244 seconds]
[21:39:49] <girls> I assumed, your vpn tries to autoconnect
[21:39:53] <girls> ah, ok
[21:40:45] <Condor> When I do set it to autoconnect, every now and then (when the resolv.conf isn't properly populated), the connection fails entirely as it can't find the VPN server though
[21:41:03] <Condor> Maybe it's a sort of race condition between resolvconf and NetworkManager?
[21:41:24] <girls> sounds reasonable
[21:41:45] <girls> as I said before: I don't use networkmanager, so I don't know much about it
[21:42:08] <Condor> Me neither :') it's pretty much a black box to be honest
[21:42:21] <Condor> Maybe I should give netctl a try
[21:42:36] <girls> but since it's from gnome, I suspect it to try to do everything
[21:42:59] <Condor> Sounds like a reasonable thing to do
[21:43:03] <girls> yeah
[21:43:14] <girls> if you don't have strong reasons to use networkmanager
[21:43:19] <girls> just try netctl
