[10:13:46] <buildmaster> Hi abaumann!
[10:13:46] <buildmaster> !rq abaumann
[10:13:46] <phrik> buildmaster: <abaumann> they should have called it 'features: side-channel'
[10:14:35] <abaumann> weird: i486 also has this libidn2.so.0/libidn2.so.4 messup. To me it looks like: every time I build libidn2 I get a different major version number for the shared library..
[10:15:34] <abaumann> systemd then seems to link to whatever is on the system. When there are two on the system, it's rather random what it picks then..
[10:16:14] <abaumann> gpgme had some expired test certificates and a time_t 64-bit/32-bit messup. Hope, it's all patched now..
[10:28:25] <bill-auger> FWIW i was able to rebuid systemd against the libidn2 in staging and it actually boots
[10:29:49] <bill-auger> i also had [build-support] enabled
[10:29:52] -!- oaken-source has joined #archlinux32
[10:30:09] <bill-auger> so im no quite sure what i got but it worked
[10:36:24] <abaumann> yeah, I'll try the shim-libidn2 approach also for i486. There is a [bootstrap] repo instead of [build-support], but the principle is the same.
[10:37:30] <abaumann> those kind of changes are really dangerous, as they can hard a distro heavily. normal users are not happy, if systemd doesn't start and usually also don't know how to recover from the situation.
[10:37:37] <abaumann> *harm
[10:38:22] <abaumann> KMS switching and Xorg have a similar potential - people don't know what 'nomodeset' and Ctrl-Alt-F2 or similar does. :-)
[10:39:48] <abaumann> broken login managers equally.
[10:56:54] <abaumann> When I build a libidn2, I get libidn2.so.0.3.5
[10:57:02] <abaumann> and libidn2.so.0
[10:57:35] <abaumann> This doesn't make sense: the current major is libidn2.so.4.0.0/libidn2.so.
[10:58:09] <buildmaster> i686/kwallet is broken (says buildknecht).
[11:02:25] <buildmaster> i686/smbnetfs are broken (says rechenknecht).
[11:06:22] -!- deep42thought has joined #archlinux32
[11:06:22] <buildmaster> Hi deep42thought!
[11:06:22] <buildmaster> !rq deep42thought
[11:06:22] <phrik> buildmaster: <deep42thought> my cluster of 1k 4/86's will be happy to iterate Maxwell-Vlasov-equations :-D
[11:06:27] <deep42thought> Hi abaumann!
[11:07:05] <deep42thought> my impression was, that current major of libidn2 is libidn2.so.0.3.5
[11:07:11] <deep42thought> (this is also on x86_64)
[11:07:22] <deep42thought> so my guess was, that they _decreased_ the soname
[11:07:27] <deep42thought> but I have no evidence of that ..
[11:46:28] <abaumann> hi deep42thought
[11:46:35] <deep42thought> hi abaumann!
[11:46:49] <deep42thought> did you get libidn2 sorted out on i486?
[11:46:53] <abaumann> .0 is actually usually the develpoment version. Then when you release, you go the normal ABI number way .1 .2 .3
[11:47:02] <deep42thought> ah, ok
[11:47:06] <abaumann> the jump from 0.3.5 is to 0.4 which is then 4.
[11:47:06] * deep42thought didn't know that
[11:47:17] <deep42thought> so we're now in a development version?
[11:47:19] <deep42thought> hmm
[11:47:19] <abaumann> * abaumann remember a good paper by Drepper about this topic
[11:47:22] <deep42thought> sounds risky :-)
[11:47:27] <abaumann> that's the weird thing.
[11:47:35] <abaumann> the other way around makes more sense.
[11:47:54] <abaumann> that's something for elibrokeit to explain. :-)
[11:48:15] <abaumann> libidn2.so.0/libidn2.so.0.3.5 also upstream.
[11:48:18] <abaumann> So well, so it is.
[12:05:51] <bill-auger> deep42thought: they decreased the soname
[12:06:26] <bill-auger> i noted that in comment #13 here https://labs.parabola.nu
[12:06:27] <phrik> Title: Bug #2139: Updating [libidn2] breaks [libre/systemd] may lead to unbootable system - Packages - Parabola Issue Tracker (at labs.parabola.nu)
[12:07:42] <bill-auger> eli gave his opionion in comment #15 "The recent soname changes by upstream are too ridiculous it seems."
[12:08:12] <abaumann> lol

[14:12:56] <elibrokeit> abaumann: in self-defense, arch has switched to using libidn2.so as the dependency for a boatload of packages. We will now be versioning the dependency in order to have some marginal level of sanity when building packages using libidn2
[14:13:16] <elibrokeit> Current rebuilds should be picking that up from our svn tree...
[14:13:37] <buildmaster> i686/zeroc-ice is broken (says nlopc46).
[14:18:20] <deep42thought> elibrokeit: yeah, I noticed the dependency on the soname was just added lately
