[00:40:29] <crns> what's up with the error "<package> does not have a valid architecture"? it comes up with most packages (vim, for example)
[00:41:07] <crns> i'm a newbie to arch, btw. or linux, for that matter. but none of my research helped with this issue
[00:41:57] <crns> i hope this is the right place to ask
[00:45:39] -!- thePiGrepper has quit [Ping timeout: 265 seconds]
[00:45:56] -!- thePiGrepper has joined #archlinux32
[01:00:30] <crns> i think it's calling for pentium4 packages, while i'm trying to get i686. those apparently don't exist on the mirrors
[01:25:05] <bill-auger> crns: if your computer supports pentium4, then you are using the pentium4 repos
[01:25:42] <crns> Linux archlinux 5.3.7-arch1.1.0-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Fri Oct 18 16:41:04 CEST 2019 i686 GNU/Linux
[01:25:47] <crns> it's an old samsung nc1ß
[01:25:49] <crns> nc10*
[01:26:18] <bill-auger> thats the name of the kernel - if you just upgraded today you would need to reboot
[01:26:47] <crns> i just installed it recently
[01:26:59] <bill-auger> you can revert back to the i686 repos if you like; but you dont need to
[01:27:40] <bill-auger> the pentium4 packages are probably better optimized for your CPU
[01:28:05] <crns> oh? how do i go about moving to those repos?
[01:28:19] <bill-auger> you probably dont ned to do anything but reboot
[01:28:30] <crns> i've done that tons of times today
[01:31:25] <bill-auger> a bug report would probably be a good idea
[01:32:00] <crns> yeah, i was trying to stick to support for now, as this seems like a common problem that isn't worth a bug report
[01:32:37] <bill-auger> if your /etc/pacman.conf has Architecture = auto, you should be be getting all pentium4 packages
[01:32:47] <bill-auger> check that maybe and run pacman -Syyuu
[01:33:00] <bill-auger> and then open a bug report if you still have problems
[01:33:08] <crns> will do, cheers!
[01:33:52] <bill-auger> `pacman -Syyuu` is essentaially " hard reset the entire system"
[01:34:09] <crns> it's set to auto
[01:35:01] <bill-auger> im pretty sure your kernel should be pentium4 then, unless your CPU is older then pentium4
[01:39:57] <crns> "pacman -Syyuu" did the job, i really appreciate your support!
[01:40:44] <crns> should i manually set architecture to pentium4? it's auto, currentl
[01:40:45] <crns> y
[01:41:00] <crns> probably not necessary
