[14:00:20] <Gnea> is it normal when booting on a msdos1 partition (eeepc laptop, so not using gpt) for a separate /usr partition to get ignored at boot time? /sbin/init isn't being found and I've been at this for several hours now
[14:01:51] <girls> not finding /sbin/init looks like missing /
[14:02:01] <girls> and: no, it's not normal
[14:02:12] <Gnea> it mounts /new_root just fine
[14:02:46] <girls> I think, /usr should be mounted by systemd later on
[14:02:53] <Gnea> it just doesn't find init (/lib/systemd/systemd) because /usr isn't mounted yet. I checked fstab and the UUID is correct
[14:03:22] <girls> ah, yes
[14:03:24] <girls> hmm
[14:03:53] <girls> did you ever have such a system running, where /usr is on a separate partition?
[14:04:05] <Gnea> for well over 20 years :-)
[14:04:16] <girls> :-)
[14:04:54] <Gnea> all of my systems are segmented that way
[14:05:18] <girls> it sounds like something, the initramdisk or bootloader should do
[14:05:20] <Gnea> and I've done it before on this same laptop. but for some strange reason, it's not liking the setup
[14:05:33] <girls> I would try to check those
[14:05:40] <Gnea> I'm thinking it might be initramfs
[14:05:43] <Gnea> okay
[14:05:51] <girls> does the fallback image work?
[14:06:09] <Gnea> didn't try it lol
[14:06:30] <Gnea> I'm booted up to the usb installation now
[14:06:42] <girls> maybe it's some missing firmware for the /usr partition :-/
[14:06:51] <girls> then the fallback image might work
[14:09:33] <girls> "and note that if you don't have /usr mounted before init starts, your system will break in esoteric and silent ways"

[14:13:02] <girls> do you have the same as #7?
[14:18:48] <Gnea> well. fallback failed for the same reason as well
[14:18:57] <Gnea> looking...
[14:23:04] <Gnea> that might very well be the thing...
[14:23:17] <girls> :-)
[14:23:48] <Gnea> looks like I was missing a couple of hooks, going to rebuild the images now :-)
