[07:25:47] <abaumann> mmh, no, is it broken then?
[07:25:59] <abaumann> Didn't get hit by that (yet). :-)
[07:43:06] <abaumann> _backports in systemd PKGBUILD, nice idea, actually
[07:43:19] <abaumann> just sad the EFI patch doesn't apply due to conflicts
[07:43:35] <abaumann> we could build systemd without efi support (who uses gummiboot on IA32 anyways)

[09:59:43] <girls-> regarding git on i486: the package failed in check(), I forced it onto a x86_64 host, and apparently, this helped ...
[09:59:58] <girls-> we should probably set up some x86_64 hosts/vms building i486, too
[10:02:18] <abaumann> bad bots :-)

[12:46:20] <buildmaster> i486/libsndfile is broken (says eurobuild6-7-i486): https://archlinux32.org
[12:56:19] <abaumann> about i486: libsndfile, just works fine with a wrongly probed -msse2 on a x86_64-hosted chroot, but fails with illegal instruction in the tests on a i486 virtual machine.. so..
[12:57:16] <abaumann> another option could be to provide wrappers for gcc, etc. so that wrong probing is not possible, but the wrapper approach can get quite tricky at times.. :-)
[13:01:53] <deep42thought> how do these "intelligent" scripts probe for sse2 and co?
[13:02:05] <deep42thought> is there some kernel callback, that we could hack?
[13:02:08] <abaumann> if (CPU_IS_X86), check_c_compiler_flag (-msse2 HAVE_MSSE2_COMPILER_FLAG
[13:02:24] <abaumann> and this is true of course, even for a gcc compiled on i486
[13:02:26] <deep42thought> who sets CPU_IS_X86?
[13:02:40] <deep42thought> ah, x86, not x86_64
[13:02:41] <deep42thought> hmmm
[13:02:46] <abaumann> well, this flag steers a lot on top.
[13:02:50] <deep42thought> so it's simply a bug in the configure script, then
[13:02:56] <abaumann> I don't mind to create patch files for that.
[13:03:01] <abaumann> CMakeLists.txt
[13:03:02] <abaumann> yes.
[13:03:12] <deep42thought> we should raise it to upupstream
[13:03:22] <abaumann> I stopped reporting them upstream, because 4 out of 5 times it was either not understood or simply ignored.
[13:03:24] <deep42thought> make them aware, that someone still uses i686 and lower
[13:03:33] <deep42thought> hmm
[13:03:39] <abaumann> yeah, probably, we should
[13:04:02] <abaumann> but I start to hate to have 100nds of bug reporting, forum, github, gitlab, whatherver abounts just for that. :-)

[13:22:24] <deep42thought> hah, yeah
[13:23:09] <deep42thought> we should patch gcc to not allow this option
[13:23:17] <deep42thought> *combination of options
[13:26:51] <abaumann> if that would be that easy.. :-)
[13:28:48] <abaumann> mmh libsndfile war wrong for i686 too.

[18:24:41] <buildmaster> i686/loki is broken (says eurobuild6-1): https://archlinux32.org
[18:39:58] <PhotoJim> Is Arch32 likely to be supported for a few more years? I have a couple of 32-bit Intel CPUs running Ubuntu (w/ XFCE) and I'd like to keep them running. Ubuntu 18.04 LTS is the last 32-bit LTS and EOL is coming before long, but if I make a change, I want it to be the last change I make before disposing of machines. :)
[18:40:13] <PhotoJim> I'm used to Manjaro on a Ryzen laptop. Never used Arch directly but I understand they feel much the same.
[18:49:12] <buildmaster> pentium4/loki is broken (says eurobuild6-1): https://archlinux32.org
[19:01:51] <girls-> PhotoJim: there are mainly only two devs, but we try to keep it running :-)
[19:03:45] <girls-> we use arch32 on a couple machines ourself - some of which are a crucial part of our private infrastructure (e.g. my router runs arch32)
[19:12:03] <PhotoJim> girls-: thanks. :) motivated to keep going? :) These machines I have are old and obsolete but they still work well and I have use for them. I don't always need an 8-core Ryzen.
[19:12:22] <girls-> I'm not sure, how much manjaro holds the user's hand, but on arch you're expected to do much of the config stuff yourself
[19:12:36] <PhotoJim> I've used Linux for a long time, so I can manage some stuff.
[19:12:40] <PhotoJim> bbiab, will catch up
[19:12:43] <girls-> sounds good
[19:14:28] <girls-> the problem is, that upstream neglects 32 bit more and more. This will sooner or later also kill arch32
[19:14:53] <girls-> we already see more and more trouble with full-fledged fancy software like browsers and such
[19:15:33] <girls-> but arch32 will live quite some time beyond that :-)

[20:05:48] <buildmaster> pentium4/haskell-haddock-library is broken (says nlopc46): https://archlinux32.org
[20:08:34] <PhotoJim> girls-: true, but if that happens, i386 Linux is in trouble, not just one specific distro. and I guess if I want to keep this hardware running past then, it'll be NetBSD time. :)
[20:09:05] <girls-> yeah, just saying
[20:09:17] <girls-> plus: arch is traditionally less willing to patch upstream problems
[20:09:28] <girls-> though, we make some exceptions on the 32 bit branch :-D
[20:09:48] <girls-> because upstream sometimes clearly does not think about or test on i686
[20:34:56] <PhotoJim> that will happen more and more as time goes on, I suspect
[20:35:08] -!- abaumann has joined #archlinux32
[20:35:08] <buildmaster> Hi abaumann!
[20:35:09] <buildmaster> !rq abaumann
[20:35:09] <phrik> buildmaster: <abaumann> the master (git) on the slave (machine)
[20:35:18] <girls-> Hi abaumann!
[20:35:50] <abaumann> deep42thought: there where "too many request errors" on the main news page, so the syndicated content said "upstream news down". I added a small cache there..
[20:36:05] <girls-> it was not cached?
[20:36:07] <girls-> oopsie
[20:36:17] <abaumann> nope :-)
[20:36:25] <girls-> well, it worked until now :-D
[20:36:33] <girls-> how do you cache?
[20:36:38] <girls-> memcached?
[20:36:43] <abaumann> apcu_store
[20:36:44] <girls-> (it's already in place)
[20:36:46] <abaumann> just the XML
[20:36:54] <girls-> ok
[20:37:00] <abaumann> it was used for "news_available" already or so..
[20:37:13] <girls-> yeah, ok
[20:37:22] <girls-> then I already switched from memcached to acpu_store :-D
[20:37:45] <abaumann> it's a temporary solution.. with the potential to get permanent.. :-)
[20:37:58] <girls-> well, why temporary?
[20:38:06] <girls-> I think, it's an ok solution
[20:38:20] <abaumann> in the philosophical sense everything is temporary..
[20:38:28] <girls-> sure
[20:38:46] <girls-> this solution will maximally last 4.5 billion years ...
[20:38:55] <abaumann> ..true that.
[20:39:17] <abaumann> unless Archlinux32 runs on space stations on Io or Europa then.. ;-)
[20:39:27] <girls-> the order of the order of the age of the universe is 2 - no matter in which unit you measure
[20:41:59] <abaumann> now that's philosophical. :-)
[20:42:10] <girls-> well, *we* won't maintain arch32 for 4.5 billion years, though :-D
[20:42:21] <girls-> actually, it's simple math
[20:43:05] <abaumann> well, till then evolution may grow our species more hands to deal with Arch32..
[20:43:15] <girls-> good idea
[20:43:28] <girls-> I should start raising my kids near nuclear reactors ...
[20:43:43] <abaumann> ..hurry.. they disappear.. :-)
[20:44:32] <girls-> nah, I'm a physicist, I'll simply build my own
[20:45:46] <girls-> when they turn them all off, what will they do with all the uranium? I guess, they'll sell it on the internet. That's my chance :-)
[20:48:07] <abaumann> like the meter reader.. ;-)
[20:48:28] <girls-> exactly :-)
[20:48:38] <abaumann> *abaumann checks ebay..
[20:48:52] <girls-> down let them ship too much in one package!
[20:48:54] <abaumann> ..for uranium.. oh, ultrium, this is not an element, but a tape..
[20:49:15] <girls-> what's the critical mass of ultrium?
[20:49:43] <abaumann> 36 grams, before the tapes explode in the drive..
[20:49:48] <girls-> ui
