[08:32:02] <wjlafrance> what do you use for kernel compression mode? default (zstd22)? i ended up using lz4 for kernel compression, and didn't do anything special for mkinitcpio compression mode, except i did have to give it a `-t` because /tmp wasn't large enough
[08:33:05] <wjlafrance> when i tried to boot my custom kernel it just hung at "Loading linux-custom" with 100% cpu, i probably missed a step.
[08:49:02] <abaumann> hanging is usually a good indicator, that the decompression algorigthm uses too much memory. I'm using xz or sometimes good old gzip.
[08:50:40] <abaumann> I usually just slowly decrease the memory in qemu during tests, so I see when the kernel stops working.
[08:51:15] <abaumann> The other idea for old machines is not to use a ramdisk at all and just provide a root file system on the ISO (as the i48 Archiso is done) or for the running system,
