[00:42:36] <ConSiGno> sdl2 is compiled on 486 with assembly on, that will need to be turned off or else it'll have sse instructions compiled in
[00:58:50] <ConSiGno> yes the nvidia drivers aren't going to work. the methods they used aren't even in the kernel anymore.
[00:59:02] <ConSiGno> and yes they are much older than 340. 175!
[01:31:14] <ConSiGno> I will be back monday or whenever I find an irc client for the arch install :)

[07:30:06] <buildmaster> Hi abaumann!
[07:30:06] <buildmaster> !rq abaumann
[07:30:07] <phrik> buildmaster: <abaumann> still.. I'm close to declare pacman-static the official pacman :->
[07:30:13] <abaumann> ConSiGno: nice going on arch i486 :-)
[07:30:30] <abaumann> KitsuWhooa: thanks for helping out supporting :-)
[07:30:41] <abaumann> the i486 is - aeh - very alpha
[07:31:02] <abaumann> https://git.archlinux32.org
[07:31:04] <phrik> Title: iso - archi486 - Archlinux32 i486 tools (at git.archlinux32.org)
[07:31:09] <abaumann> building your own is not that complicated
[07:31:50] <abaumann> on low memory, the first thing you have to do is to create a file system and a swap partition, then create and activate the swap, then make a /mnt/tmp and set TMPDIR accordingly (for instance for mkinitcpio)
[07:32:22] <abaumann> also note, that pacman frees certain data (like GPG keys) only in the end of a big run (for instance running pacstrap base), so it might hit "out of memory" then.
[07:32:33] <abaumann> As for Nvidia cards on old machines: just get another card.
[07:32:44] <abaumann> It's not worth the hazzle to get it working.
[07:33:31] <abaumann> As for the xz vs. gz thingy. The buildmaster (our build system) uses the same compression method for all packages, regardless of the sub-architecture, currently.
[07:35:01] <abaumann> For a custom pacman.conf, just copy it to say /mnt/tmp/pacman.conf and use it with 'pacstrap -C /mnt/tmp/pacman.conf' or in 'pacman --config /mnt/tmp/pacman.conf', The i486 ISO is not a writeable overlay or a tmpfs fetched into memory, it is the raw ISO9960 filesystem on the ISO.
[07:35:57] <abaumann> IRC client: irssi should work on i486

[13:05:11] <KitsuWhooa> abaumann: Yeah, I figured most of that out, especially after I saw that message when booting up the iso in a VM
[13:05:47] <KitsuWhooa> old nvidia cards used to work well enough with nouveau, but then things started going downhill and no one fixed them :p
