[18:31:38] <void09_> hm this is strange, does my arch i486 install dynamically switches to i686 if i pick an i686 compatible cpu ?
[18:31:58] <void09_> i wanted to install something from aur, added i486 to pkgbuild, and it pulled i686 cmake
[18:32:57] <void09_> inxi said i686 kernel
[18:33:16] <void09_> when i wanted to install the aur package built, it said it is wrong arch
[18:39:41] <void09_> Yeah, running cmake again now on i486 cpu gives me illegal instruction
[18:39:53] <void09_> didn't know i can break the i486-ness by simply swapping cpu
[18:40:17] <KitsuWhooa> I think pacman does it if the arch is set to auto
[18:40:38] <KitsuWhooa> It's how installing pentium4 from an i686 iso works
[18:40:53] <KitsuWhooa> It detects that your cpu does sse2 and switches
[18:48:37] <void09_> wanted to test something against qemu <=9.0 on arch
[19:19:56] <void09_> where would you go for an archlinux32 docker image ?
[19:21:56] <void09_> https://git.archlinux32.org
[19:21:58] <phrik> Title: docker - Archlinux32 docker scripts (at git.archlinux32.org)
[19:27:42] <void09_> meh broken
[19:27:44] <void09_> error: failed retrieving file 'core.db' from pkgcache.eckner.net : Failed to connect to pkgcache.eckner.net port 80 after 10002 ms: Could not connect to server
[19:50:49] <KitsuWhooa> don't think there is one
[19:51:06] <KitsuWhooa> it's easier to create a chroot though
[20:20:57] <void09_> well that docker repo was edited 2 weeks ago, by Erich Eckner, so it must still be relevant
[20:21:43] <void09_> i just wanted something quicker than installing from scratch in qemu

[21:21:41] <bill-auger> the complete install of a CLI system is only about 15-20 minutes - consider that you would need to download the docker thingy, there is little difference really
[21:23:56] <bill-auger> because the most of the intallation time is the package downloads
[21:25:53] <bill-auger> case in point, the parabola ISO builder can make ISOs for offine install - with one of those ISOs, the complete install of a CLI system is only about 30 seconds
[21:30:10] <bill-auger> 6 minutes for a comeplete GUI system with LXDE and many applications - that is wuite nice - if this is something you would do more than once, docker offer no advantage
[21:30:18] <bill-auger> in fact it is a disadvantage, because it is always an outdated system, that you would need to upgrade anyways (more to download) - the ISO will always give you an up-to-date system
[21:38:59] <void09_> lol docker images are up in <10 sec
[21:39:48] <void09_> i mean for a prebuilt image
[22:05:37] <bill-auger> if your bandwuidth is that good, then it would take you 40 sec for a standard install - 10 sec to download + 30 sec for the install
