[21:41:47] <void09_> any ideas what I can use to boot arch i686 on an old pc that doesn't support usb boot ? I tried burning plop to a CD, but it doesn't see the usb stick with arch 686 iso on it
[21:42:00] <void09_> i have just hdd/floppy/cd boot
[21:42:57] <KitsuWhooa> write the iso to another hdd and boot from it perhaps
[21:43:19] <KitsuWhooa> or take the disk out, put it in another machine, and install arch i686 there and then move the disk back
[21:56:29] <void09_> gah idk, that system only has ide/pata connections, and i don't have adapter
[21:57:10] <void09_> i was hoping to get plop to boot the arch i686 install iso, then install from there on another usb, then use plop to boot the installed usb
[21:57:41] <KitsuWhooa> wouldn't usb be extremely slow on such an old system?
[21:58:27] <KitsuWhooa> any chance of PXE?
[21:58:52] <KitsuWhooa> if your NIC has a boot rom on it, it might make things easier
[22:16:13] <void09_> yeah, usb speeds, 1MB/s I guess, not great. I guess I should get a pata/sata adapter
[22:16:33] <void09_> no PXE in bios boot device entry
[22:17:36] <KitsuWhooa> is the nic onboard?
[22:17:42] <KitsuWhooa> if it's a card, make sure you have option roms enabled
[22:18:43] <KitsuWhooa> ipxe might also be an option
[23:08:03] <void09_> yeah, nic is onboard
[23:08:13] <void09_> pentium 3 era dell desktop
[23:08:46] <KitsuWhooa> nice nice
